The importance of strength and conditioning Training

If you look at all of the top athletes in the world, what is the one thing that they all have in common? They all have a very strict strength and conditioning program that they cannot miss. The reason they do this is that they have to make sure that they are performing at the highest level they can. A lot of people pay money to see them play and they are also paid a lot of money to play so that’s why they have the best trainers in the world. Llin Physical Therapy is a Physical Therapy near Lenox Hill where we have some of the best strength and conditioning programs out there.

Why is Strength and Conditioning Important?

When it comes to working out and being healthy it is important to understand why you are doing what you are doing and what the benefits are. There are many different ways to get strength besides just going to the gym and lifting weights and running. For example yoga, you need to have great core strength and flexibility to be able to do some of the poses and hold them. Strength and conditioning is a great way to change your body and get the results that you are looking for. Whether you are new to strength and conditioning or an expert in it you will get a lot more motivation by working out this way than your typical lifting weights and a crowded gym. Llin Physical Therapy near Lenox Hill  is a one-on-one training program that focuses on a variety of tools to improve movement, health, and physical performance to help improve their clients and make them feel amazing.

What Is Femoroacetabular Impingement

Have you found that it has become nearly impossible to walk without experiencing hip pain?  Are you limping around, or noticed increased stiffness around your hip?  If you’ve answered yes to these, you could be dealing with femoroacetabular impingement, sometimes called FAI.  While this condition will complicate your ability to move normally, symptoms can be alleviated with the use of physical therapy near Lenox Hill.  Our team at Llin Physical Therapy is well versed in this condition and will help patients overcome their troublesome symptoms.

What Is Femoroacetabular Impingement?

FAI occurs when an extra bone grows alongside the bones that form the hip joint.  This extra bone compromises the integrity of the joint, leading to potential damage. Damage can include the destruction of cartilage and forcing the bones of the joint to fit together incorrectly.  While there are three types of FAI, fortunately, physical therapy near Lenox Hill, can be used to combat all of them.  The three types of impingement that can take place include the following:

  • Pincer impingement.

  • Cam impingement.

  • Combined impingement.

Symptoms of FAI

Many patients who deal with FAI have no idea an extra bone is growing in their body until symptoms of this condition become present.  Pain, stiffness, and limping are three of the most common symptoms associated with FAI.  This pain is typically experienced in the groin area, however, it can at times radiate to the outside of the hip.  Additionally, activities that involve turning, twisting, and squatting can cause a person to experience sharp pain.  Though it may seem like being inactive is the only way to combat these symptoms, the exact opposite is true.

Treatment With Physical Therapy Near Lenox Hill

Using physical activity for treatment when you’re in pain may seem counterintuitive, but this is exactly what physical therapy is built on.  Our staff has used this form of treatment to help many patients facing FAI, and can do the same for you.  By teaching you a variety of stretches and strengthening exercises, our physical therapists will increase the range of motion in your hip, and strengthen the muscles around the damaged joint.  Doing so will take the stress off of the injured joint, mitigating your pain and helping you receive the relief you’ve needed.

At Llin Physical Therapy, our team is no stranger to injury treatment.  If you’ve been told you’re living with femoroacetabular impingement, you may think that surgery is your only option to relieve your pain.  Before going down that potentially dangerous route, contact our team right away.  We’ll administer physical therapy near Lenox Hill to give you the non-invasive care you need.  To learn more about our services, explore our homepage now.

Physical therapy for lower back pain

If you're searching for physical therapy near Lenox Hill for your lower back pain, look no further! LLIN has your back — literally. Most physical therapy treatments designed for lower back pain will include some combination of the following exercises:

Stretching

Proper stretching paired with active exercise should help maintain a normal range of motion as well as provide relief for muscles that may be suffering from disuse atrophy, spasm from improper posture, or nerve irregularities. Following a stretching routine specifically tailored to the patient by his/her medical professional is one of the simplest paths to recovery.

Dynamic Stabilization

Exercise balls, balancing machines, and specific stabilizing exercises all have at least one thing in common: dynamic stabilization. These types of exercises strengthen the secondary muscles of the spine as well as the range of motion for the spine itself.

Core Strength

Strengthening the abdominal muscles as well as the lower back muscles is what core strength is all about. Some core strength exercises are:

Specific Abdominal Strengthening: Abdominal machines, crunches, sit-ups, and leg raises.

Lower Back Exercises: Extends the spine by utilizing the lower back muscles. If the machines designed for these exercises are not readily available, another method to execute the exercise is to lie on your stomach while slowly raising your chest from the ground.

'Good-mornings': An exercise that specifically strengthens the lower back muscles. The patient stands with his/her legs straight and shoulder width apart, with a weighted bar (typically a broomstick) across the shoulders. Then, the patient slowly bends forward until his/her back is nearly parallel to the floor before returning to the starting posture. These are very similar to bending down to touch your toes, but with weight across your shoulders being involved.

Lower back pain sufferers are often referred to physical therapy in an effort to supply the patient with non-surgical treatment and recovery before considering more invasive treatments, such as back surgery, if all else fails. With physical therapy, the hope is that there will be a decrease in back pain, increase in function, as well as to ingrain a steady and disciplined workout routine in the patient for the purpose of preventing future back issues.
